Frequently Asked Questions

This page is full of answers to our most popular questions as tax professionals. We hope these tips and answers help out the community.

Where’s my refund?

You may visit https://www.irs.gov/refunds to see what process the IRS might be in currently. You will need SSID number or ITIN, and EXACT refund amount stated on your tax return, and filing status. Should you find trouble doing this call us.

unfortunately I do not live near your office, can i still RECEIVE help or my taxes prepared?

In the current Covid-19 era our services are all done remotely by video/phone call. Please call or email us for additional information.

I currently am paid on 1099 but my employer switched me to a w-2 because of a law change. am i still entitled to the same deductions as before?

Absolutely. These deductions cannot be taken unless a licensed tax preparer knows the law. Please set a free consultation with us and we can explain how this road can be navigated legally.

when can i contact tax returns by contract for any tax related help?

We are very very busy between January 25th-April 15th due to a large influx of client appointments. Emailing us is your best option during this time. However, anytime after tax season please send us an email or phone call is fine if you have any questions.

How does an audit impact me? will it go away if i just ignore it?

No, you can’t ignore an audit. It’s a very serious and meticulous process. Please contact us and set an appointment for an audit consultation.

Irs says i owe money from “blah year” tax return, but i was due a refund, what should i do?

Please give us a call and we will get a POA from you and speak to an IRS agent with your expressed permission to help you understand what may have happened. The IRS likes to change things without letting taxpayers understand fully why.

i have received letters from the irs, how should i respond?

Please let an enrolled agent or tax preparer see the letter before doing anything. You may scan it and send it us, or fax the letter.

Will the irs ever call me asking for money by debit card, check, bank account information, or gift cards to pay a debt?

Never. If you receive something of this nature please contact us by email or call us. This is most likely a scam.

why do i owe money when i receive a w-2 tax form every year?

Most payroll companies have no idea what to withhold due to Trumps tax law. Other problems could be that your filing status is incorrect, a federal law change, your state laws, etc. It is important to let us take a look at your tax documents to deduce what happened.

WIll an enrolled agent from tRBC represent me in the case of an audit?

We will be able to help in all of the stages of the audit and intervene with the permission given by the taxpayer through a Power Of Attorney (POA). We cannot represent like a lawyer would in court, yet.

*this answer will be updated in the future.

IF I AM UNDER AUDIT WILL “tAX RETURNS BY CONTRACT” FIND A LAWYER FOR ME?

We are sorry, but we may not. If we recommend a lawyer and that lawyer may have a conflict of interest to protect our work instead of you. We do not want that. We will work with step by step with any lawyer of your choosing.

should i pay extra money to the irs if I might have on good account that i may owe money from my current or upcoming year tax return?

If you have a suspicion that you owe more money please come set a “Tax Consultation” appointment whether its for personal or business taxes. We can help plan ahead for the future.
